Megan McCafferty is a flutist and educator based in the Northeast, dedicated to using music as a powerful tool to forge deep, meaningful connections with people. An active soloist and chamber musician, she is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, where she earned her Master’s degree studying with Linda Chesis. She performs with her wind quintet, Hydra Winds, under the mentorship of Valerie Coleman.
Megan’s recent engagements include her solo performance at the 2025 National Flute Association Convention, where she gave the NFA premiere of Valerie Coleman’s Bostonian Scenes. She was a guest artist at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, leading flute masterclasses, chamber coachings, a chamber recital, and providing career guidance for young musicians. Other highlights include performances at the 2024 Flutistry Boston Flute Festival, appearances with the Albany Symphony, Boston Civic Orchestra, and other ensembles, as well as her Carnegie Hall solo debut at age 17 as a first prize winner of the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition.
Her diverse performance experience spans international tours, summer festivals such as Mostly Modern Festival and The Anatomy of Sound, and notable premieres—including Clint Needham’s Resolve with the Factory Seconds Brass Trio (Cleveland Orchestra) at Carnegie Hall in 2019, and Julia Wolfe’s flute choir work Oxygen at the 2022 NFA Convention in Chicago.
Megan earned her Bachelor of Music in flute performance, with a minor in instrument repair, from the Boston Conservatory in 2023. A 2019 graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, her principal teachers have included Sarah Brady, Diana Morgan, Nancy Stagnitta, and Terri Sundberg. She has furthered her artistry through masterclasses with Jim Walker, Paula Robison, Alberto Almarza, Lorna McGhee, Seth Morris, Sharon Sparrow, and Demarre McGill, among others.
Passionate about equity and representation in the arts, Megan actively commissions works from female composers that explore the experience of being a woman in society. Beyond performing, she serves as the Director of Sales and Marketing at Flutistry and sits on the board of the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Fund.
When she’s not performing or teaching, Megan enjoys golfing, reading, and spending time with her dogs. She’s always on the hunt for the best gluten-free restaurants and can’t resist photographing every dog she meets. Megan is honored to be recognized as a Haynes Young Artist.
